Classrooms - Grades 3 & 4

The third and fourth grade years are big transition years. During these years students begin to mature in their understanding of the outside world. They start to get ready to be independent workers and thinkers. Students are given plenty of opportunity to show responsibility and ownership for their work.

Grace Lutheran School helps with this maturing by adding new experiences. Students continue to have computer, Spanish, and music classes each week. These added classes provide a well rounded education. At the third grade level, a new teacher is added. Children have a separate physical education teacher, and with the addition of a half-court gym, basketball hoop, and volleyball nets, our school provides a lot of opportunity for students to learn new and interesting skills.

Third graders learn how to take notes, an important skill for students at every level. Third graders also start learning to use group science lab activities. They really enjoy learning how soil is affected by erosion and how water quality affects plant growth. Developing a hypothesis and testing it leads to many creative solutions.

The fourth grade social studies curriculum emphasizes Wisconsin history, geography, economics, government, and cultural differences. Simply studying the Milwaukee skyline provides ample opportunity to see how important Christianity is to our area. Fourth grade continues to build on the Biblical teachings taught when they were in third grade. This year they are using a new memory work curriculum that will guide them to key passages from Scripture and from Luther’s Small Catechism.

Miss Stroik, the third and forth grade homeroom teacher, is experiencing a medical leave of absence at the time of this writing. We thank Mrs. Emily Lenz, the substitute teacher, for providing this information.
